Tears, Flowers And Remembrances For AA 587 Victims
As with the majority of the last five American Airlines Flight 587 anniversaries, this year's sixth anniversary was held under dark and chilly skies. At least 300 family members and friends of the 265 victims of the November 12, 2001 crash into Belle Harbor attended the memorial service, hosted by Mayor Michael Bloomberg. After the 45-minute service, many of the mourners, holding photos of the loved ones lost on the tragic flight, traveled to Beach 131 Street and Newport Avenue, the crash site.
