Shamrocks Continue to Rise As Midgets Rustle Roosevelt
The Broad Channel Midget Shamrocks traveled last weekend to Roosevelt, who came in with a 6-1 record, and upset the Rough Riders, 12-6, to take over second place in the Nassau Suffolk Football League.
RB Paulie Yodice helped the Shamrocks strike first as he took a handoff from QB Luke Schreiner, and scored a 5-yard touchdown to take a 6-0 lead. Chris Manfre, who ran for 66 yards for the game, was also instrumental in sparking the offense.
The offensive line were key to the next drive as George Baroudos, Andrew Conklin, Kenny McGowan, Billy Collins and Tim Panetta provided holes for Shamrocks runners to go through.
Schreiner took the football and ran a sweep into the end zone for a 5 yard touchdown run as the Shamrocks up 12-0. The Shamrocks defense was tough all day. Roosevelt was shutdown by Chris Manfre (5tackles 2sacks ), Tom Kelly, Charlie Gavigan, Zack Warner, Mike Perrotto, Brian Ganun, Evan Riviere, and Vinnie Spirito
Though Roosevelt scored on a 50- yard touchdown run to decrease the lead to 12-6, the Shamrocks defense held stead fast. Great tackles were made by; Nick Manzi, Matt Trudden, Vinnie Finizio, Alex Passarella Marco Minichino, and Anthony Perrotto. Tom Kelly and Yodice recovered fumbles.
The coaches are very proud that the Shamrocks have continued to play well and rise in the standings. The next game will be at BCAC Field, where the Midgets will take on Copiague at 11 a.m. on November 4.
