Historical Views of the Rockaways
Compared to the palatial residences of present day Neponsit, the Quinby home on the southeast corner of Washington Avenue (now Rockaway Beach Boulevard) and Beach 147 Street (formerly Bannock Boulevard) seems rather modest. The image is dated at 1920; the house did not appear in any of the postcard images offered in my picture book of the Rockaways, published by the Arcadia Publishing Postcard History Series (available through arcadia.com or amazon.com). All ten Neponsit cards were apparently published before 1920.
This house appears to be covered with cedar shingles on the sides and the roof. The upper and lower porches, with their railings and trellis work…makes this house a carpenter's dream!
