Local Youth Participate In Garden Club Show
Some children in the neighborhood participated in the Harvest of the Arts and Flowers, a Second District Federated Garden Club Show, at Hofstra University. Children submitted their artwork in several categories, including Three Ring Circus, Dance Recital and others.
Among the children were Emma Meade, a P.S. 114 student, who received first place and a special youth award for her submission to Three Ring Circus, a depiction of an animal on a plaque using seeds, pods, and other dried plant material. Ava Evangelista and Emily Frerks, members of West End Temple's Brownie Troop, won second and third prize.
Jillian Krol, a member of West End Temple's Brownie Troop, received first place and a special youth award for her submission to the Dance Recital category, a dancing shoe decorated with dried plant material. Fiona Brackley won second prize, Ariel Creamer won third prize, and Devyn Stansky received honorable mention.
The entire West End Temple Brownie troop participated in the show. Danielle Hoffman, Danielle Sconza, Kristen Bracci, Kate Calciano, Samantha Bevanti, Samantha Weiner, Kayla McHenry and Megan O'Connel all received honorable mention.
Luke Gersh, a P.S. 114 student, won second place for the watermelon he grew during the summer. The Shore Garden Club sponsored these youngsters' entries into the show. Mary Meade and Katy Holahan, both members of the Shore Garden Club, worked with the children.
