New York Cares Volunteers Give FRHS A Fresh Look
Among those schools was Far Rockaway High School, where volunteers from seven different organizations came together on Saturday, October 20 to give it a fresh look for the fall semester.
Murals of some the most famous Looney Tunes characters, such as Tweety Bird, Wile E. Coyote and the Tasmanian Devil now adorn the walls of the stairwell leading to the girls' locker room and the walls of the locker room itself received fresh coats of pink paint. The wall of the stairwell outside the boys' locker room is now filled with painted images depicting different sports and the girls' gym and the handrails of staircases were also painted.
In addition to faculty, the other groups working at FRHS were the St. John's College of Pharmacy, members of the Far Rockaway Youth Court, Boston College alumni, Alpha Phi Delta, the University of Virginia's Virginia Club of New York, Morningside Ministry and KMC & I.
The day was also a day of fundraising for New York Cares, which last year helped more than 335,000 New Yorkers by - among other things - distributing coats to the needy during the winter.
