First and foremost, allow me to thank The Wave for the opportunity they have afforded both Eric Ulrich and me to write a column to address the Republicans of the 23rd Assembly District. It is truly a statement attesting to their willingness to allow us to get our message out, unfettered. We thank them now and look forward to addressing our constituents on a regular basis.
Well, it would seem that Eric Ulrich and I made waves within the 23 AD by becoming the new Republican State Committee Members, better known as District Leaders, during this primary election. We thank everyone who decided to make a difference by voting. Because of you, we had the largest voter turnout in Queens, and thus we were the horse race that caught the attention of other politicians. As this is a party position, only Republicans were allowed to vote and because it is a party position, this race is over.
The General Election is next on the political calendar and although this is not a big election, it is important to vote, nonetheless. Richard A. Brown is running again for Queens District Attorney and although he is running on three party lines, you are sending a message when you choose which line you vote for him on. You are stating which party ideals you are aligning yourself with. There are also three State Supreme Court Justices being elected, out of six. The three Republican candidates are Theodore Stamas, Kerry John Katsorhis and Joseph F. Kasper. These candidates would welcome your support on November 6, 2007; I am asking you to do so by voting.
Since the primary on September 18, we have held an organizational meeting where we have adopted by-laws and elected new officials for the 23 AD. I congratulate George Greco as Chairman, Rosemary Duffy as Vice Chairwoman, Bernard Solow as Secretary, Gerald Sullivan as Treasurer and Scott Jordan as Sgt. at Arms. We thank the Committee Members who were present, for those who exercised their proxies and hope that in the future, all Republicans throughout the 23 AD will choose to get involved in their local Republican Clubs. This is the first step in making a difference and learning about local politics, just as serving as an elected or appointed official in the capacity of County Committee Member of a small geographical area known as an Election District is the first step in effecting change. Because many of our neighbors have agreed to serve in that capacity, I am happy to state that we now have Rockawayites representing their EDs and we hope they will be active in bringing community issues to light. If anyone is willing to serve in this capacity, or would like to have information regarding the Rockaway Republican Club meetings and membership, please contact the Rockaway Republicans at 718-318-1515.
In addition, we have just attended an organizational meeting for Queens County where Phil Ragusa was reelected as Queens County Chairman. Both Eric and I, along with our Chairman, George Greco, have been asked to run on the Executive Committee and we were honored to do so. It is our hope to help bring about a cohesive and united county which will be effective in spreading Republican principles and reminding people what it means to be a Republican. This is not a dress rehearsal. This is your life and the lives of your family. The world is too small and too much is at stake not to take a stand, and get involved. It is my hope to keep you informed as to what is happening within the 23 AD and to have all communities working together within our district. It is our wish to assist you all in bettering our communities, because it is difficult to focus on the larger picture, when your needs are not being met. I invite past District Leaders Teresa Ariola and Ed O'Hare, along with John Calcagnile and Denise Walsh, to step up and help Eric and myself in uniting the 23 AD and to do whatever is necessary to spread the principles of the Republican Party to the people residing within our geographical areas.
I am thrilled to be your State Committee Member and look forward to serving.
Please look for information regarding your local Republican Clubs and please take the time to vote on November 6, 2007, so the Republican 23 AD can continue to send a message to the politicians that we are a voting block ready to "make waves" as many people, Democrats and Republicans alike, unfortunately will not take the five minutes to exercise their constitutional right. Will you?
