The 37th Annual Youth Conference
The Association of New York State Youth Bureaus will hold its 37th Annual Youth Conference at the New York Marriott at the Bridge in Brooklyn in downtown Brooklyn, October 17 - 19.
State Senator Malcolm A. Smith will address the conference during its opening session on October 18, and will be joined by Gladys Carrion, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
"Each year the conference brings together youth bureaus and boards from throughout the state and nation to discuss the pertinent issues of the day when it comes to caring for our children. This year's event is special in two ways- the conference coincides with the 60th anniversary of the New York City Youth Bureau, and this is the first year that the conference has been held in New York City," Smith said.
The association consists of more than 200 members representing youth bureaus and boards. Youth service professionals, state and county officials, educators, researchers and advocates attend the conference on an annual basis.
Senator Smith noted that the theme of this year's conference, "Our Youth: Fulfilling New York's Promise," is especially appropriate. Among the topics to be considered are: success, connections, opportunities, health and wellness, and support. More than 30 workshops will be held during the three-day event, and there will be speeches by notable officials and individuals.
