Exciting Finish Highlight Midget Shamrocks,Wantaugh Game

The Broad Channel Athletic Club Midget were certainly ready to play on a beautiful night for football last Saturday against Wantaugh.

Broad Channel and Wantaugh both displayed strong defense throughout the first half.

BCAC's defense of Chris Manfre, Paulie Yodice, Marco Minichino, Zack Warner, Charlie Gavigan and Vinnie Finizio would hold wantaugh to no points in the first half.

The BCAC offense could only muster 51 yards on 10 carries as Wantaugh's defense got tough.

In the second half, BCAC started off well with nick manzi running the kickoff back for 5 yards but the Wantaugh defense would hold tough. The shamrocks defense, led by Evan Riviere, Tom Kelly, Matt Trudden, Anthony Perrotto, Timmy Panetta, Billy Collins and Joey Gallo got tough.

The teams exchanged the ball a few times but Wantaugh scored the first touchdown on a 12-yard pass as they led 7-0.

The Shamrock offensive line of Mike Perrotto, Andrew Conklin, George Baroudos, Vinnie Spirito, Riviere, Kenny McGowan, Brian Ganun, and Mike "Rudy" Conneely, ,came out blocking in the 4th quarter.

Manfre recorded 46 yards on six carries as the Shamrocks drove to the Wantaugh 3-yd line. A five yard penalty pushed the Shamrocks back and led to a 4th and goal from the 8 yard line.

QB Luke Schreiner rolled out of the pocket and found Charlie Gavigan in the end zone for an 8 yd touchdown. Manfre took a handoff off the right side for the extra point as BCAC tied the game at 7-7.

The BCAC defense forced Wantaugh offense to give the ball back to the Shamrocks with a minute to go in the game.

Schreiner threw a perfect middle screen pass to Kelly for 26 yards and it looked like he might go all the way for the touchdown. But wantaugh caught Kelly as he ran down the sidelines. The offense was setting up for another play but the referee picked up the ball and called a great game to an end.

The field was packed from endzone to end zone with screaming fans, parents, grandparents, family and friends for vocally supporting the team. The next game will take place on Saturday, September 29 when Broad Channel hosts Brentwood at 8 p.m. Go shamrocks!
