Sanders Gets Engines Roaring

Councilman James Sanders poses a question to the Rockaway community: "What should be done with the vacant firehouse on Beach 59 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard?"

A meeting to determine the fate of the vacant firehouse will be held on Wednesday, October 17, at 6:30 p.m., at the Goldie Maple Academy, 365 Beach 56 Street.

This meeting will provide dialog and feedback on what the community thinks should be done. Everyone will be given the opportunity to offer their opinions. Constituents and civic leaders will also share their ideas as to the fate of the firehouse.

"My own view is that we need a vocational school," said Sanders. He added: "with more than a quarter of the Rockaway population receiving various financial assistance from the government, there is a great need for a new solution to an old problem. I think vocational school will enhance the quality of life for my Rockaway constituents. An opportunity like this will allow them to obtain an education and become productive citizens, but there are many other options to be explored."
