Team Rockaway Mermaid Runs for a Cure

On Saturday, September 9, Team Rockaway Mermaid took a bus from Belle Harbor's Yacht Club to Manhattan to walk and run in the Susan Komen "Race for the Cure." Team Captain Betsy Kuhlman remarked that it was her twelfth time in the race and each year, the team gets bigger.

The women of Team Mermaid looked great wearing shirts designed by Linda Humphrey Graphics. Team members ranging in age from 13 to over 55 participated in the four-mile race. The age range of team members proves that breast cancer awareness is a matter for all ages.

Next Saturday, Team Mermaid and other women of Rockaway will continue to help this cause by participating in a fund-raiser. "Swing for the Cure" is a tennis tournament, held at Belle Harbor Yacht Club, where the proceeds will go toward breast cancer research. Donations can be made at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club's website.
