PHC Rehab Unit Celebrates 'Coney Island Day'

The residents of Peninsula Center for Extended Care and Rehabilitation (PCECR) celebrated the best of summer recently with "Coney Island Day", a very special event planned in their honor by Ellen Eckelmann, the Director of Therapeutic Recreation. Hot dogs, knishes, cotton candy, snow cones and pretzels served as the "fun food" of the event.

Alan, the Glenn Miller strumming banjo player, was a really big hit with the residents of the PCECR and family members who joined in on "Coney Island Day" Celebration. The residents of the PCECR were entertained for hours by the professionals of Glenn Miller Entertainment, who provide entertainment specifically geared to delight the senior population residing in nursing homes and extended care facilities.

The residents could not get enough of Alan, the strolling banjo strummer, who plucked tirelessly throughout the event, delivering both "oldies and goodies" with which many a resident sang along.

The balloon artist provided residents with a balloon animal of their choice; many converted these masterpieces into unique hats that they donned for the entire day.

In addition, there was a clown, a fortuneteller and tarot card reader, arcade games and a grand petting zoo, complete with llamas, goats, sheep, a cow, bunnies and chicks. Agood time was had by all!
