You could hear the "Pipers" warming up, signaling the start of the Breezy Point Mardi Gras Parade. And, the parade gets larger and larger each year. I counted five pipe bands, maybe more. Next year will be the 50th Anniversary of the Parade and it will be all out! I first came across Jeremy Keim, Brittany and Rick with babies, Justin and Tom Morgan, Lobsters: Ashley Simpson, Brione Kelly and Richard Starcee.
"Something Fishy in Breezy": "King Fish, Cat Fish, Star Fish".......On my way to view more of the parade at Donna Gallagher's house, Alice Paladino invited me up on her deck. She is a member of BPSC and I met her daughter, Joanna. Ronnie Corbett, whom I haven't seen in years, with son Kevin and daughter, Patricia, were there. I learned the winners of bocce at BPSC were: Eddy Stackpole who beat Bob Tracey; Mary Finely and Linda Baby were winners in Guys and Dolls, and in Men's Doubles, Jimmy Doyle and Ray Larson took first place. Chris Flaherty, new owner of John Carroll's house with wife Terry and daughters, Megan and Kristen. Kristen received the bocce award and daughter, Joanne and husband, Ron Marietta are expecting in November. Finally found Donna Gallagher's beautiful house (it is exquisite) where my cousins were assembled: Gladys Crowley, daughter, Caryn Fata, Patty and Bobby (Gladys' son) Crowley and their daughter, Nichole Crowley, who has completed three years at Molloy College, majoring in Criminal Justice. She will graduate in 2008.
I met Donna's charming parents, Maryanne and William Gallagher. They have nine grandchildren, and are great-grandparents of Kate, through Robert and Lisa Gall. Their daughter, Donna, who has a four-year-old son, designed her beautiful home herself. She is a radiologist at the County Medical Center in Staten Island. I met Danny Le Dunne from Carnarsie; he is Donna's nephew who spent 6 months in Japan in the Marines and 2 years on inactive reserve and is being sent back. Beautiful family, beautiful house and, I must say, a beautiful spread prepared by Donna herself. She is quite a gal! One of the very bright, independent women of today. In the meantime, the Parade marched on: "Dancing in the Stars," "Alcohol Restoration," "Beer Muscle," and "Jersey Boys." Outside church I spoke to the winners of $1,500 Catholic Club Raffle Anne and Jim Boyhan. Congratulations! At the stores ran into Nicole Crowley's cousin and Patty Crowley's niece, Samantha Ritter, who just returned from Las Vegas. She is from Middletown, New Jersey.
Lobster Sam, grandson of Janet and Gene Seibel and the son of Janet Lou Presto, is nine years old and will be treated by grandma and grandpa to his favorite food, lobster. Mom, Denise Lou Presto, is the Office Manager for the Breezy Point Co-op. Your prayers have been partially answered for her mother, Janet. The new medication has wiped out Janet's pain, but they don't know if a cure is in sight. By the way, Helene Danzilo is still suffering in pain. Maybe your prayers could help her, too. Just remember them.....
Wandered in to Kennedy's for my usual H²0 and caught Christopher Gagirard checking out the beach pulchritude while sipping beers at the bar. Joe Kilbride, one of my Corner Bachelors, has his heart pumping away nicely, after a recharge in the hospital. Save a few heartbeats for me, Joe.
BPSC members Mary O'Hara, her daughters Kathy O'Hara and Maureen Regalbutz, and Jane Dunna Ward and Maryann Elder are up for the Mystery Doubles Tennis Semi- Finals. Headed toward the Volley Ball Playoffs at the Sugar Bowl, and stopped in to Don Ritter's Surf Shop to check out his Reef flip flops .There is so much controversy that flip flops are bad for you. Not Surf Shop flip flops. They are contoured with side support for comfort to fit and will not injure your back or knees. And, they still have those hidden compartments for cash, credit cards and one with a flask to give yourself a good shot when in need. Abottle opener for beer is hidden in the sole of the flip flop. Donald is now having a clearance sale of 20 percent to 50 percent off on men's and girl's swim suits through September. And the Surf Shop, too, is hidden away behind the Breezy stores and snack bar near the ball field. Go in and check it out. Get your bargains while they last.
Bob O'Brien's granddaughter, Christine O'Connor, proudly presented to him a plaque she won for her softball team and for the most-improved member. His other granddaughter is Alexis Nicole O'Connor. Parents are Bob's daughter, Christine and Bernie O'Connor
Janet of Studio J's son is getting married this weekend, but his wife-tobe is to be operated on following the wedding. They did intend to go to an exclusive resort in Anguilla for five days. The package is good till November and hopefully, they will be able to use it. Morsey is their new colorist and you, my readers, have approved of the color job he did for me. Many of you liked the color. Alice is so sweet there. She is ready to give you coffee and bagels, a gentle rinse for your hair and she graciously extends her services for your comfort. If you need color you may want to try Morsey out.
