Last Chance To RSVP For RBVL Dinner
The Rockaway Beach Volleyball League will celebrate the completion of their 18th season at a gala awards dinner on Friday 9/14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 333 Beach 90th Street.
You are likely to see all sorts of animals there, including Rats, Sharks, Piranhas, Lobsters, Mahooshkas and the Mighty Boosh. There will be lawyers, insurance people, tow truck operators, physical therapists, aviators, yachters and real estate agents as well as all-stars, babes, surfers, orphans, knights and transplants. And of course, many of our local restaurants and pubs will be represented, too.
The weather forecast is for a dry and air-conditioned night and a good time is predicted for all attendees. A great party band, Me and the Boys (soon to change their name to Moonlight Bay), will provide live music. Of course, you will provide the dancing. Admission is $55 (a substantial drop from last year) and will include a Mary Morgan buffet dinner as well as an open bar, which will feature your favorite bottled beers (Corona, Bud, Coors Light, Heineken and Amstel Light) and other adult beverages.
Captains are collecting money as we speak and many people have already responded, paid for their tickets and formed tables. However, many of you have not responded.
If you have not replied yet please do so immediately, even if you can't make it. That will be a big help to your party coordinators. At this late date, this simple courtesy will be much appreciated. Then follow up with your payments.
Remember, money talks! It's only one week away so let's go! In the past, we have never had to turn anyone away. but we came very close last year. Reserve your tables and get your money in pronto.
If you have any questions or want to secure an entire table, call Bugsy at 917-386-7711 or Denise at 347-866- 4570 or Rocky at 718-338-3906 x229. Continue to check our website (www. rbvl.com) for photos and stories. You can expect that John Sica's annual video and photo presentation at the dinner will be an Emmy winner once again.
Awards will be given out to the 6 division champs, Freedhand's Yankees, Flip-Cup All-Stars, the Federation, the Wharf Rats, the Blarney Castle and Team Margarita and some surprise awards will almost certainly follow.
Bring your dancing shoes or your "Cement Shoes", whatever you need to kick up a storm. Bugsy recommends wearing footwear that you can kick off easily. Dress any way that makes you feel comfortable. Last year the fashion ranged from casual beach to elegant chic. Many outstanding Hawaiian shirts showed up as well as some classy dresses and you can expect more of the same this year. Maybe we'll even see some referees for a change. They'll be the ones with the striped shirts and whistles
Some of our members cannot accept the fact that the season is over. That doesn't mean volleyball is done. Many groups from different teams are still playing on the weekends in pickup games throughout the Rockaway's. It's amazing how much fun you can have hitting the big white ball over the net on a sunny beach. After the big dinnerdance, you can take six months off and not think about volleyball until February, when planning begins for 2008.
We hope to see everyone back for another go at this sport that we love so much. Your enthusiasm and sportsmanship make the league so great! The games are over but summer is not, so we'll still see you on the beach (Maybe at the Michelle O'Neill tournament in Long Beach.). And we hope to see you on the dance floor at the awards dinner on September 14th.
