Wave Commentary Is Destructive
The commentary that you printed in the August 10 issue of your newspaper concerning the Rockaway Orthodox Jewish community is disturbing for many reasons. The language that you use is inflammatory; it is laced with inaccuracies; and is obviously written from ignorance.

Make Your Voices Heard About The Y Pool
Community Board 14 recently had a committee meeting regarding the building of the proposed YMCA, which is to be included in the development of the Arverne Urban Renewal Area. This meeting was reported on by the Wave.

What A Disgrace!
My blood boiled as I read Congressman Weiner's press release to your newspaper, wherein he proudly stated that once again, he has sent a letter to the President of the United States calling for the release of Jonathan Pollard, an analyst then working in a position of trust for the United States Navy, who is serving a life sentence on espionage charges.

Wave Is Wrong On Orthodox Jews
What you wrote in this week's edition of The Wave, was one shocking, and two false. Before you use "freedom of the press," shouldn't you do a little more research? Firstly: what you wrote about the Satmar community was false. Since when is building a synagogue on one's property called taking over?

'Show Us The Money!'
Fed up: This is a follow-up letter regarding the Arverne YMCA fourlane pool disaster. It's such an insult to the people of the Rockaways that the politicians always tell you they are behind the project but never come up with any money (e.g.- Senator Clinton, Senator Schumer, Congressman Weiner, Assemblywoman Pheffer, Councilman Addabbo and Councilman Sanders). Empty promises are lies. Like the old saying goes, "show us the money!"

Glance Into The Past
Old Gilroy's Bar has finally gone kaput. Recently, the Hammels Seaside Adult Center has been condemned. It was formerly the Hammels Senior Center for approximately 40 years.

We Need Help From The Feds
Has anyone noticed the increased trash on our beach in Neponsit? Also, I noticed even more graffiti on the boardwalk at Riis Park Beach and the fences in that park are in disrepair.

Wants A Transit Plaza
In the July 20 edition of the Wave you had an article about a new Rite- Aid pharmacy on Beach 108 Street. If it is not too late, I'd like to offer a suggestion.

Purification Pumping In The Bay
I have recommended it many times to officials, and also in pages of The Wave - build a dependable and giant, solar-operated, salt-water pumping station in Far Rockaway to constantly pump fresh seawater into the bay, giving it a permanent flush.

Fix Seaside Center For Seniors
A "life style" died last week on Monday, August 6, 2007, at 1 p.m. A call was received from the sponsoring organization, Catholic Charities, which was informed by the Department of Buildings of New York City that the building address 90-01 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, Rockaway Beach, New York, [The Seaside Center] has by order of the DOB been CONDEMNED.

Thought-Provoking Column
John Paul Culotta's (The Progressive) commentary in the August 10 edition of The Wave is thoughtprovoking and well-stated regarding the need in any democratic society for a constant questioning of the status quo amongst our leadership.

Taking Duplicity To New Heights
On Saturday, the U.S. Congress passed the new Surveillance Bill to better protect America and proactively interdict terrorist planning. Regrettably, Rockaway's representatives voted against the bill.

'Now And Then There Is Good'
Every once in awhile we become more aware of a small segment of our society, who are working silently. I think of them as angels. A group where I live whose deeds go unsung, but are deserving of our praise.

Stop The Music
I have lived in some of the most dangerous cities plagued with gang violence but I had never thought that Far Rockaway would take this turn for the worst. Last Saturday from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., my family endured over 10 hours of repetitive soundtracks of gun shooting, shattering glass and so called "ganster rap."

Rockaway Treated Like Second-Class Citizen
Please help! Rockaway residents have long awaited the commitment made by the city and the developers of the Arverne Urban Renewal Area project, from the Mayor's press release November 9, 2006, "which will create 4,100 units of housing that will house over 10,000 New Yorkers," to provide the promised community center to support the needs of our entire peninsula population, both present and future.

Column Adds Fuel To Fire Of Hate
Shame on you. What in the world possessed you to use From The Editor's Desk to malign the Orthodox community in the Five Towns. What did you hope to accomplish?

'Very Disappointed' In Recent Editorial
Your damaging, appalling editorial of August 10, 2007 needs correction. I didn't know you were a Talmudic scholar. For your information, the Torah tells us that we must do whatever is necessary, even on the Sabbath, to save a life; any life, Jew or non-Jew! Why didn't you check your facts before publishing such a damaging lie?

Something Must Be Done About Mail Delivery
I wonder when the delivery of mail at the Rockaway Beach branch of the USPS will ever get better. About two or three months ago, I took off early from work and personally went to the Rockaway Beach branch and had a talk with the manager of this branch complaining about all the mail, which is not delivered, but left randomly in the mailroom of 7800 Shore Front Parkway.
