The Progressive
Troublemakers
Most of us are content, especially this time of year, to deal with the mundane minutiae of our daily lives. Notes from the High C's
Rockaway Music and Arts Council

Historical Views of the Rockaways
George Cornelius Tilyou's Steeplechase Park
George Tilyou was hearing a lot of talk about the amusement parks, bathhouses and hotels in Rockaway Beach after he opened his new Steeplechase Park on Coney Island in 1897. Not being one to let the grass grow under his feet, in 1900 he purchased the land from the boulevard to the high water line from Beach 97 to Beach 100 Streets.

The Inner Voice
Our society focuses a lot on happiness and people believe they are entitled to be happy. Almost any action is acceptable if it creates happiness. If one is not happy, we are told to change it so we can be happy. We also work hard to ensure that our children will be happy, and try to help parents find happiness in their later years.
