SLLeague Playoffs Just Around The Corner

The top two teams in the Bantam Division (9-12 years old) are the Yankees with a 6- 0 record and the Mets, who are 4-2. The coaches for both teams included Bernard Robinson, Stan Brown, Ray Desmarets, Daniel Reina and umpire Earl Miller. With the playoffs about to commence in the Sorrentino Recreational Center/ Health Plus/ PAL/ Parks and Recreation 2007 Little League; the teams this weekend will battle to secure prime playoff spots in both the Bantam and Junior Divisions.

The Bantam Division (9-12 year olds) standings once again has the New York Yankees in first place, with six wins and no losses. The New York Mets have edged up in the standings are now in second place with a 4-2 record. The Cincinnati Reds are 3-3 and the White Sox, currently at 0-6, try to get their first win of the season this Saturday.

In the Junior Division (13-15 year olds), the Chicago Cubs remain on top with a 5-1 record. The Oakland Athletics and Yankees are tied for second place, with two wins, three losses and a tie. The White Sox got their first two victories of the season and are now 2- 4.

The Sorrentino Little League will play their final regular season games on Saturday, with games starting at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. All games are played at O'Donahue Park on Beach 17 Street.

The playoffs in both divisions begin on Tuesday, August 7 and Wednesday, August 8. On Saturday, August 11, the Bantam Division championship game will be played at 11 a.m. The Junior Division title contest will start at 2 p.m. Each division winner will then qualify to compete in the citywide tournament starting on August 18.
