Breezy Point Par Tee Golf News

By Peg Ansbro

Many years ago in Scotland, a new game was invented. It was called "Gentlemen Only…Ladies Forbidden"….. and thus the word GOLF entered into the English language.

But little did the sages know that ladies and gentlemen would eventually play together. And play together the Par Tee Golfers did on Thursday, July 19th. The fog was so thick that when teeing off, the golfers could not see the green.

However, that did not hamper the Guys and Dolls from playing their best and enjoying every moment of play. Thanks to the efforts of our co-chairladies, MaryEllen Hogan and Sheila Shaberick, the event was a perfect day.

Third place, with a score of 49, went to the team of Al and Doris Neimeth, Al Loyola and Meg Feerick. The Second place team, who had a score of 48, was credited to the team of Betty and Rick Weed and Bill and Eileen Witzgall. Leaving everyone behind the field was the first place winners at 44 (eleven under par). This honor belongs to the amazing team of Tom (Mr. Wonderful) Kearney, MaryEllen Hogan, Eileen Watson and George Wilmarth. I believe this is the best score ever recorded at a "Guys and Dolls" tournament. Well done!!! Congratulations to all!!

At the Catholic Club Sheila and MaryEllen had many more prizes and awards distributed to the group. The "Best Dressed Foursome" was Alice and Val Mateos and Bea and Don Sharrock.

The "Most Fun Group" consisted of Mary McDermot, Kathleen Joyce, Ann and George Campbell. Nearest to the pin on #1 was Meg Feerick and Tom

(Mr. Wonderful) Kearney. On #18 the winners was Carol Bayne and Joe Miller. The 50/50 was won by Pat Livingstone.

The "Trivia Game" was won by Al Loyola and Eileen Watson. For their efforts, the Par Tee Ladies would like to thank Don Sharrock and Dick Mahon because they are there every Thursday and make sure every thing is perfect for the ladies. The "Past Presidents of the Par Tee" were also honored for their service. It was announced that our own Jane Deacy will be running for the Republican State Committee. Be sure and VOTE FOR JANE on Tuesday, September 18.

The only sad part of the day was learning of the death of Millie Donnelly. She was a very active leader in our organization and for many years chaired the "Guys and Dolls" tournament. She was a grand lady with a passion for life who loved all and was loved by all. Rest in peace, dear Millie!

Also noted that day were the 50th wedding anniversaries of Joan and Frank McNally, and Kay and Joe Miller. Congratulations to them and may they have many more years of happiness and good health.

Many thanks to MaryEllen Hogan and Sheila Shaberick for a well organized and planned event. It was a pleasure to be there! All your efforts are very much appreciated. And thank you to Betty Weed and Eileen Witzgall for agreeing to chair next year's affair.

Golfer: "Please stop checking your watch all the time. It's too much of a distraction."

Caddy: "It's not a watch- it's a compass."

God Bless. Have a great week.
