'The Wolf In Sheep's Clothing'
The following letter is in response to John Paul Culotta's commentary, 'Peace or Real Estate," that appeared in the July 13, 2007 edition of The Wave. Dear Editor,
Mr. Culotta wants us to view him as a friend of the Jews and other minorities who helped make our country great.
He is concerned that the Middle East conflict between Israel and Palestinians and the Iraqi War has a negative effect on Christians in the region. He should be concerned that Christians are being persecuted in the region as well as other non- Muslims. So should we all! He is concerned that the "Security Fence" built by Israel has divided church property, not that it was built to keep Israel's women, children and Israel's Arabs safe from Palestinian terrorists.
He believes that the United States' interests are not always the same as Israel's. Doesn't he know that U.S. interests are not always the same as any one of our allies around the world?
He believes that Israel should be a haven for persecuted Jews around the world, but for our nation to have blind allegiance to Israel is not in the best interest of our nation. What a good, loyal friend Mr. Culotta is to the Jews!
Mr. Culotta sees no danger in the Palestinians calling for the destruction of Israel. He thinks that's normal in a conflict.
So far I don't hear Israel calling for the destruction of the Palestinians or any other Muslim country.
Mr. Culotta offers us his brilliant solution to the Middle East crisis. He believes there should be a single state- Utopia- where the Jews and Palestinians will then live happily ever after with each other. In other words, there will no longer be a Jewish state.
Here are some facts for Mr. Culotta to consider: -The logistics alone make a single state impossible, since the Jews would be a minute minority and would no longer have a Jewish state. -When the Arabs were in control of Jerusalem, the Jews were not allowed into the area or to pray at the Western Wall. Under Israeli control, all religious, sacred places are protected and preserved. -Israel gave Gaza back to the Palestinians with its beautiful "hot house industry," which would have given them economic improvement. They destroyed the hot houses and remain in poverty. -The Sunnis and Shiites are busy destroying each other, and Hamas and Fatah are killing each other. -Arab Muslims killed over a million Black Christians in Sudan.
The list goes on and on! Who shall Israel make peace with? Mr. Culotta is espousing the rhetoric of today's leftists, who are no friends of the Jews or of Israel.
