SJEH Names Gupta As New CEO
Gupta succeeds Luis A. Hernandez, who will continue to oversee the activities of St. John's Episcopal Hospital and will be working on other business opportunities to increase the effectiveness of Episcopal Health Services. Gupta will report to Mr. Hernandez.
Gupta previously served as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of The Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens in Long Island City, New York, from 2000 to the present. At the 235-bed hospital, which is a wholly-owned division of Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, he provided strategic leadership and was responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of clinical
and non-clinical departments. Among his many other responsibilities,
he also was responsible for the hospital's strategic direction and facility master plan, medical staff development and physician partnership strategies.
Prior to his service at The Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens, he was a senior consultant at KPMG, LLP. As part of KPMG's health care segment, he provided financial and operational strategic business services to major health care providers throughout the Northeast, assisted in hospital opera-tions assessments and reengineering projects, and led and served on due diligence assistance projects for major academic medical centers. From 1995 to 1998, he served as Director of Operations and Finance at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Children's Hospital of New York. While there, he oversaw and managed the daily functioning of the facility, among other responsibilities.
Gupta received a Master's degree in Public Health and Health Policy and Management from Columbia Univer-sity and a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University. He has taught graduate-level courses as a guest lecturer in healthcare financial management. He resides in Roslyn, New York, and is a certified EMT.
