New York City's Parks and Recreation Department will soon begin renovations to Far Rockaway's boardwalk between Beach 20 and Beach 23 Streets.

In an e-mail to The Wave, Abigail Lootens- a spokesperson for the department- confirmed the work was to begin shortly.

"The project should begin later this month and will include replacement of the timbers underneath and the decking," said Lootens. "The construction sign is currently being fabricated and will then be posted."

In its June 8 issue, The Wave ran photos of boards, with nails dangerously sticking up from them, that were found from Beach 21 to Beach 24 Streets. Queens Commissioner of Parks Dorothy Lewandowski told The Wave last month, "There is contract money available this fall to fix the boards in the 20's."

These repairs are among the many improvements that were announced by Parks' Commissioner Adrian Benepe last month. Other upcoming improvements include a new ramp from the boardwalk to the sidewalk on Beach 24 Street, and boardwalk restoration in the area of Beach 70 to Beach 80 Streets.

Gating has gone up from mid-Beach 21 to Beach 20 Streets in preparation for the renovations to the boardwalk.
