PHC Auxiliary Learns About Hospitalist Medicine

Dr. Peter A. Guiney, Director of Peninsula Hospital Center's Family Practice Residency Program, was the special guest speaker at this month's Auxiliary meeting. Dr. Guiney filled the members in about the recent announcement of a Fellowship Program in Hospitalist Medicine that will be initiated at the Hospital Center. He also went into great detail about hospitalist medicine and its benefits to the patient as well as the Hospital Center, noting that while it decreases the total cost per case, average length of stay and readmission rate, it has been shown to raise patient/family satisfaction, doctor satisfaction and enhance resident training. Pictured are Auxiliary President Sheila Schwartz with Dr. Peter A. Guiney and Joan Ryan, Fundraising Chairman for the PHC Auxiliary.
