Smith Retires From The NYPD

Officer Pepe Antonio Smith will retire from the NYPD after 20 years of service on July 28, 2007. Smith graduated from the Police Academy in 1987, and after one year on the job was transferred to the 100th Precinct in Rockaway Beach. Smith patrolled the streets and beaches of Rockaway until 1997, when he became a Youth Officer at Beach Channel High School, where he was a member of the graduating class of 1977. Smith worked closely with fellow officers, principals, and teachers on several different youth programs.

Officer Smith is originally from Chicago, Illinois, and is the son of Mattie Sue and Pedro Smith. The oldest of seven children, he moved to Rockaway in 1973 at the age of fourteen, and has spent the majority of his life in Rockaway, working and living amongst family and friends. Smith plans to retire to Florida with his wife, Milagros; their children, Anthony, Jessica, Sean, Curtis, Jessica, Christina, and Brittany; and his grandson, Anthony. Officer Smith and his wife also have two more grandchildren on the way.
