CMS After School @ Far Rockaway HS Celebrates
The CMS (Community Mediation Services) After School Program ended another great year at Far Rockaway High School with two end-of-year events. The Culminating Show, on June 8, was held in the school's auditorium and featured a runway show with apparel designed and created by students from the CMS Fashion Design club. CMS fashion models worked the runway as the CMS Music Production and DJ clubs had the audience bopping to four original CMS songs, which students created in the school. Students were involved in producing, recording and writing the lyrics for each song. The CMS Dance, Cheerleading and Step clubs also put on great performances during the show. To top off the event, the Photography club had a chance to display their photographs via a slideshow, "virtual photo exhibit" presentation.
Students and staff also participated in the CMS End of Year BBQ on June 12. Over 90 people came out for activities, which included an African Drumming workshop, t-shirt airbrushing, jewelry-making, an African smudge pot workshop, and carnival booths and prizes. For the second year, the BBQ Pit catered this event and barbecued for guests at the high school. CMS students were also given certificates and awards for improved attendance, academic achievement, and participation in the program.
