Bertha O. Ebron

Factory Worker

Bertha O. Ebron, a longtime Rockaway resident, died July 7.

Ebron, who was employed as a factory worker, was born in Leechville, North Carolina on April 22, 1920. Affectionately known as "Mrs. Bertha" and "Ladybug," she was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, and the door to her home was always open, according to family. She would listen, offer advice, and joke around with people of all ages, except when she was enjoying her favorite television show, Walker, Texas Ranger. When Ebron was sipping on her ice-cold Coca-Cola Classic and watching her show, she was not to be interrupted.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lula O'Neal, and husband, James Ebron.

Ebron is survived by her daughters, Gwendolyn, Willie, Violene and Donnater, George Saunders, Fitz Sutherland and Gary Jackson; brother, Joshua O'Neal of Worcester, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Tisha, Tamara, Victor, Andre, Hope, Dwayne, Stephanie, Robertha, Robert, Anjeanette, Berneal, Candra, Diana and Shawanna; 11 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, with visitation and a service at Gaffney's Friendship Chapel. Interment was at Whitfield and Whitney Cemetery in Belhaven, North Carolina.
