Elevator Industry Recruits Apprentices
The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee of the Elevator Industry will conduct recruitment on July 10 and July 12 for fifty elevator servicer and repairer apprentices. Applications will be available for pick-up at 35-40 36 Street, second floor, Long Island City, New York, 11106, on a first come first serve basis from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during the recruitment period or until 500 applications have been submitted and processed.
The committee required that applicants:
+ Be at least 18 years old by June 30, 2007;
+ Have a high school or general equivalency diploma;
+ Take an aptitude test and earn a score of 79 percent or higher;
+ Be physically able to do the work and take a physical examination and a drug test at the sponsor's expense.
The testing fee will be waived with proof of indigence. In addition, the testing fee will also be waived for any applicant receiving Welfare payments or are on public assistance, as well as applicants from Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW), Access for Women, New York City Housing Authority's "Resident Employment Services" members, and those from Construction Skills 2000.
The applicant must be a legal resident of the Tri-State New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut metropolitan areas for at least one year prior to submitting their application.
