PS 225 Celebrates Flag Day With Fun Fair
PS/MS 225 in Rockaway Park celebrated Flag Day on June 14 with a schol-wide Fun Fair. The fair included eight prize-winning game stations, face painting, sweet treats and an impressive art exhibit of American flags created by students. The fair's success was due to the outstanding volunteer efforts of parents, a select group of eighth graders and an enthusiastic school staff.
Fair organizer and teacher Patti Asbury, with the help of her daughter, Ashlee, a student at MS 323, wanted to create a sense of community, teamwork and fun within PS 225. What better way than an outdoor, fun-filled event. "It was a breath of fresh air to receive the full support of Principal Melchiorre in our endeavor to go beyond the endless DOE mandates and test prep regimens," said Asbury. "To
see the gleeful faces and hear the excited chatter of both students and adults, was worth all the hours of preparation."
The Asburys' quest to create a longlasting, vibrant memory for all involved seemed to surpass expectations. Teachers reported that their students loved working on the class flags together and creating something of their very own, and the touch of teamwork, community and fun went a long way for students, staff and family members alike. The fair was also grateful for the support and generous contribution by Kenny Good, which helped the fair's success.
