Ocean Village Gets Ready To 'Soap Up'Funds

July 14 Carwash Raises Money For Local Youth

The Ocean Village Tenant Association and its youth will host their first annual Carwash on Saturday, July 14, on Beach 56 Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the apartment complex. Organized by Donovan Richards and Nadia Charles, the event will raise money to help provide youth with summer activities and trips.

"It is no longer the time for us to sit and mutter behind closed doors, complaining why our children are selling drugs or shooting guns if we haven't taken the initiative to get them involved in providing for themselves," said Richards. "There is no one way to stop violence, but I believe if the leaders in Rockaway start getting the youth involved in their community and provide them with more activities and less promises, we will ease a lot of the unnecessary violence occurring on the peninsula. This carwash is to raise money, but most importantly it will provide our youth with a sense of unity and self-determination to make things happen for themselves."

Charles, the President of the Ocean Village Tenant Association, added, "This carwash is something very much needed to help keep our youth off the streets and give them something to do during the summer months. I am excited to be a part of anything that will benefit our youth and keep them off the streets."
