Public School 47 Has Much To Celebrate In June

PS/MS 47 seventh and eighth graders, under the direction of science teacher, Mrs. Williams, won the New York City Golden Apple Award. Besides a trophy, the school was awarded a $6,000 check. The staff, students and parents of PS/MS 47 are very proud of the school's accomplishments this year. Below is a compilation of several achievements and successes that occurred over the past few months:

Jessica Bernstein from Class 6-201 received gold medals for races and throws in the special education games. She also surpassed her previous record for swimming 25 meters, with a new time of 23.55 seconds. Sixth graders Alexa Jackowski, Lacey Skelly and Keoni Perry won a third place trophy at the Region 5 Technology Festival. Third graders Kyle O'Carroll, second grader Kyrsten Kane and Miguel Velasquez also won semi-finalist awards. Under the guidance of art therapist Lindsay Lauder, PS/MS 47 students, staff and parents lent a "hand" to create hand-print murals around the school. A total of 1,350 handprints were used to repair a wall that was covered with graffiti and had cracked, peeling paint.
