The Consortium of Rockaway Child Care Centers held their annual graduation and stepping-up ceremony in the heart of the Redfern NYCHA Housing Complex on June 8. This year's theme, "Together We Make A Sea of Difference," validated the Consortium's Executive Director, Michele Alexander-Hankins, and her belief that the Redfern community has a sense of family, community and respect.

Over 200 family members, friends and guests attended the graduation ceremony. The coordinators of the event were Allison Taitt, Educational Director, Rockaway Child Care Center and Dolores Paual, Educational Director, Bethel Mission Loving Day Care Center.

After the ceremony, the graduates, students, family members and Redfern community were treated to a fun-filled day of food, games, rides, entertainment and activities, which included a mini-carnival with a water slide, elephant rides, carousel, food and a mime presentation, sponsored by the Consortium.

Alexander-Hankins beamed with pride as the graduates received their diplomas. "I am thankful for the support and cooperation of the Redfern NYCHA, Administration for Children's Services and the Department of Education for making their festivity an overwhelming success," she said.
