More than 125 volunteers, including volunteers from the Department of Parks and Recreation and local residents took part in a beach cleaning and planting session last week that gave the area from Beach 29 to Beach 31 Streets a fresh look for the summer.

"It's a combination of city workers and volunteers from the community," said Queens Commissioner of Parks Dorothy Lewandowski about the June 2 cleanup effort. "It ties into funding to start working with communities to find out their needs for [areas to be] restored, renovated and redeveloped."

Lewandowski also said that, as part of the city's PlaNYC 2030, there are plans for restoration of Far Rockaway's boardwalk and beach area from Beach 31 Street down to Beach 9 Street.

After lunch, the beach along the designated area also gets a cleanup. After lunch, the beach along the designated area also gets a cleanup.
