Laurence Pump Softball Girls Slug To Strong Start

Laurence Pump and Well of Rockaway Little League's Major Girls Softball complete the first half of the season with 4 wins and 1 loss.
The first game on April 28, 2007, against Flynn and Flynn, had every player from Laurence Pump score once in the first four innings. Homeruns by Pauline O'Shea, Erin Tacopina and Kyra Meli powered the team to defeat Flynn and Flynn 25-1.
Becky Resner, "Cat" Murphy and Melissa Scotto excelled by making some great defensive plays.
In game 2 on April 29, Gift is Love took the wind out of the sails of Laurence Pump by winning 8-7, despite a pair of homeruns by Cody Dripchack and Kyra Meli. Even with the loss, O'Shea, Meli, Dripchak and Rebecca O' Connor made good plays defensively on the field.
On May 6 against Frank's Carpentry, the girls of Laurence Pump brought out the hard hitting bats. Ashley Basta and Julia Falcone each hit a double and Cat Murphy recorded a triple and a home run as Laurence Pump won 16-6. Judith Wanderer was outstanding defensively and the team was inspired to victory by injured players Cody Dripchak and Becky Resner, who cheered from the dugout.
In game 4 on May 11, Walsh Properties and Laurence Pump engaged in a slugfest throughout the entire game. Laurence's Kyra Meli, Caroline Nee, Kristen Lonnborg and Alexis O' Connor contributed tremendously as Laurence squeaked by for an exciting 16-15 win. Key plays were made by Julia Falcone "Becka" O'Connor and Becky Resner, Pauline O'Shea and Cody Dripchak on defense to hold off the hard charging Walsh Properties team.
Laurence Pump's bats would come alive in the third inning in their contest against Caiazzo Plumbing on May 20. Caroline Nee and Cat Murphy scored the first two runs to break a scoreless tie in the third inning. Ashley Basta, Becky Resner and many others came up big, scoring 8 more runs in the game to win 10-3.
Everyone is invited to march with the Rockaway Little League in the Memorial Day Parade on May 28.
