St. Virgilius/BCAC Softball Team Split Doubleheader
The St. Virgilius/B.C.A.C. Intermediate girls' softball team split a doubleheader this past weekend against a very good team from Our Lady of Grace.
Game one had Our Lady of Grace put up a run on the board in the first inning. St Virgilius would come back by scoring four in the bottom of the inning. Christina Sullivan drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the first run. Nancy Soliman would follow by hitting a three run triple for a 4-1 lead.
Our Lady of Grace scored one run in the second, fourth, and fifth innings to tie the game at four.
St. Virgilius' Katie McIntyre would drive in Amy Zeller in the bottom of the fifth for a 5-4 lead.
After Our Lady of Grace took a 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth inning, St Virgilius' Patricia Kelly connected on a solo home run and a bases loaded walk brought home Shannon Minihane for a 7-6 lead. Our Lady of Grace would not go down easy and put four runs up in the top of the seventh inning for a 10-7 lead.
But St. Virgilius would answer in their last at bat. A bases loaded walk to Patricia Kelly cut the lead to 10-8. Shannon Minihane's two run single and a game winning RBI single by Katie Gill would put four runs on the board for an 11-10 comeback win.
In game two, St Virgilius would score quickly in the second inning. Kaitlyn Manzi's RBI groundout scored the first run. Regina Hemminger drew a bases loaded walk for the second run and a 2 RBI base hit by Katie Mac for a 4-0 lead.
Our Lady of Grace would put up three runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the score to 4-3. They continued their comeback by taking a 6-4 lead.
St. Virgilius would score only one more run in the game in the sixth inning on a hit by Katie Gill to drive home Patricia Kelly. They could not score in the seventh and lost the game to 6-5. The next game is home on June 3 against Gate of Heaven at 4:00 p.m at the day camp. Special thanks again to the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department for the loan of their generator to clean up the pond that had flooded centerfield.
