What Will Hillary Do Next?

Dear Editor,

It's been a while since I had occasion to write to you. However, like most of your Rockaway expatriate readers, my "subscription" to THE WAVE is a lifetime one. The impetus for my letter is to publicly recognize and congratulate one of Rockaway's best, Arverne's own arctic explorer, Barbara Hillary. Ms. Hillary is the personification of tenacity and guts. How many of us in the prime of our youth could have trekked on cross country skis across frozen expanses in order to conquer the North Pole? This brave lady accomplished it as a 75-year-old cancer survivor, to become the first African American woman at the pole.

She is truly an inspiration. On behalf of your former 100 Precinct friends, P.O. Kenny Beecher (ret.), D.I. Paul Piekarski, Sgt. Pete Mastrocovi, P.O. Pete Rahaniotis, and myself, with our love and admiration: Kudos to you, Barbara!!! You did it!!!

We only wish we could toast your amazing accomplishment with another of our Rockaway heroes, Mr. Jerry Rashkis. Rest in peace, "potato-masher," we miss you.

What will Ms. Hillary's next feat be? I hope THE WAVE will keep reporting on her exploits.

CHARLES V. TALAMO DEPUTY INSPECTOR, NYPD

FORMER CO, 100 PCT.
