Ovations At Opening Of Oliver!

Last weekend's opening performances of the musical Oliver! met with outstanding receptions from soldout audiences. The show was performed at the Rockaway Theatre Company's Post Theatre on May 11, May 12 and May 13, and not a spare seat could be found in the house.

Audience response was overwhelming. "This is such a professional production, it is hard to believe this is a community theater," said audience member Charlene Greenberg. "With a theatrical production like this right here in Rockaway at $20 a ticket including free parking, who needs to spend hundreds and travel into the city to see something on Broadway?" said Ana Marie Bonn, who attended the opening night performance. Noni Signoretti of Brown's Hardware on Beach 116 Street added, "I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this performance. RTC productions keep getting better and better. As a business owner and a resident, I really appreciate what having a theater like this in Rockaway does for our community. Brown's is very happy to be an RTC sponsor."

The 56-member cast, the large majority of which are Rockaway's most talented youngsters, is led under the direction of Kathleen Valentine, a 10-piece orchestra conducted by Anne Rebold, and costume designs by Peggy Vivino.

There are only three performances left of Oliver at the Post Theatre, with Friday and Saturday evening performances nearly sold out and tickets for the closing performance on Sunday no longer available. For more information or for reservations, call 718-850- 2450 to secure a seat.
