News Events/Travel Editor/Host + WNYX - TV Morning News + 12:00 noon on UHF Chs. 35 & 26 Monday - Friday For Gene Neibel's wife, Janet Margaret Neibel, a loving mate who has certainly contributed to the happiness and kindness of this man. He is a former Breezy Point Board member, held a high position for ITT many years, and is now a caretaker of homes on the Point. You can find no better. Janet, Gene Neibel's wife, unfortunately, has been struggling with the Big "C" of the lungs and liver. We hope research has improved fast enough so that the new medication she is on will be effective to eliminate this painful and dreaded disease. God willing, Janet, this new process will cure you. We pray it does. She has received care at the Janet Monter Hospital, Long Island Jewish Diagnostic Center at Lake Success and she cannot praise them enough. They are so well organized and give such supreme service, that if, God forbid, you need care in this field, seek them out.

Gene has a birthday May 21, the same day as my grandson, Michael Matuozzi (and, just as sweet as any M&M candy). Happy, Happy Birthday to both of you. Helene Danzilo celebrated her Big Big Day on May 12, surrounded by 12 of her friends, (such as Uncle Frank from Jimmy Kimmel's show) and family, (daughter, Christine) at a dinner in Las Vegas, which she hosted with her husband, Peter Danzilo.

While having designs put on my nails at Janet's (Studio "J"), I got a few scoops: Jim and Kathleen Greene are proud of their children, Michael who is a Junior at Stonehill College and Kaitlyn who is a Sophomore at Northeastern in Boston, Massachusetts. Both are doing very well. Ellen Tolin's grandchild, Christopher Tolin, made his First Holy Communion on May 12 in Harriman, New York. Her daughter is a physician at Sloane Kettering Memorial and her son, Brian Greene, Ellen Mary's grandson, is playing football at La Cross. Alice Bridge's daughter, Sio Mara Bridges, aka Cee Cee, graduated from Queens Borough Dance Theatre and Business as a Choreographer. Her other daughter, Joanie Washing, is the principal of PS 811.

Dr. Geraldine Chapey wants to remind my readers that June 1 is the Trinity Bus service fundraiser at Russo's on the Bay. It's a good time and for a good cause. Be there.

At Kennedy's bar, where I gather news of the community, I learned that Tara Schaefer, granddaughter of Nancy Murchio of Rockaway Point, is getting married in Virginia on May 19 to Bradley Moorefield, a fireman in Fort Picket, Virginia. Congratulations! A happy life together.

John Henley, member of the New York Fire Department Bag Pipers, is celebrating 45 years at Marina Del Rey on May 11.

Quite a few people have said to me, "Dorothy, you look so well!" I thank them, but the person I thank most is Kelly O'Malley Mattone, M.D. who developed a process called "Invisilift," a non-invasive way of firming up the skin to make you look up to twenty years younger. I only make two visits a year and I look forward to this relaxing treatment every time. It is a sonogram that infuses firming cream into the skin. Her website is www.aesthetic-associates.com . She is in Great Neck, New York. Phone number is 516-483-2424 in case you want more information. I swear by it. Another thing is that she recommends is Bare Minerals for your facial makeup. It is so natural looking.

Texas was in town with a great Trade Show luncheon at Bryant Park Grill to inform the agents of an outstanding place to visit and vacation. They handed out all sorts of goodies including cowboy hats and other memorabilia. I have never been to Texas and I sure do want to go there now. Horseback riding, camping, water rafting and other fun things to do, and very friendly people, too.

Ecuador showed off their country to the Travel Agents. Lan Airways has a special from Miami for $289 RT to Quito. From there you can visit the Galapagos Islands, which has unique marine life animals. I may do a TV show down there in a few months. Do you want to join me?

At a beautiful event at the Hudson Theatre for the Books for Kids Foundation, I met Maurice DuBois and Kate Sullivan of the Today Show, both charming. They emceed the presentation and are members of Books for Kids along with Kelly Ripa, Al Roker, Spike Lee and more.

The evening was in honor of Diane Von Furstenberg for her generosity and support.

Cyrille Margarit, famous French artist, who works with Digital Images projected onto sheets of brushed aluminum, can be seen FREE with dinner at Bruno Jamais restaurant. A few of his admirers and customers are Ivana Trump, Bruce Willis and Russell Simmons. He enjoyed Mike Tyson and Madonna when he did photos of them.

Chefs with Heart had their fantastic annual food and wine tasting and auction for the American Heart and Stroke Association at Chelsea Piers where I learned agave nectar is far better for you than artificial sweeteners because of its slow absorption into the body and just as tasty in ice cream and pecan pies.
