Enterprising BCHS Students Visit Trade Fair
Beach Channel High School's Virtual Enterprise class attended the 10th Annual Virtual Enterprise International Trade Fair on March 30 in Manhattan. It was a massive event where students engaged in virtual trading with other student-run simulated businesses.
During the opening ceremony, Russell Simmons, Chairman and CEO of Rush Communications, and Department of Education Chancellor Joel I. Klein, enlightened the students about the business world.
Many of the BCHS students, who attended and represented the Beach Channel Bookstore, remarked that the International Trade Fair was interesting and they received great advice. "It was an experience that I never had before. I liked that we could work and have fun at the same time, introducing each other to different companies," said Rolando Beckford. Shalisa Caver also said, "It was a rewarding experience for me. At first it was a little intimidating, but it only helps you improve your sales and marketing skills but helps you socially as well. Overall it was fun and I enjoyed it!"
The Virtual Enterprise class consists of Amanda Ahern, Beckford, Amanda Carr, Caver, Leroy T. Allen, Amir Durant, Paule Harryelle Geffrard, Peter Getzoni, Lamont Goodhall, Jon Ross Mckenzie, Sarah Mohammad, Rula Nassar, Luz Perez, Rashida Rich, Bobby Paige and Heather Widom.
The BCHS Virtual Enterprise firm is supervised by Mrs. I. Wilford, Assistant Principal; Susan Paris, Business Department Coordinator; and Frances Shackelford, Virtual Enterprise Coordinator.
