PS 225 in Rockaway Park is holding its own version of the Fox show "So You Think You Can Dance?" with the final round of cuts taking place on May 18 at 7 p.m. to declare the winners.

In February, the middle school students at the school were encouraged to try out for the dance competition. After careful consideration, contestants were narrowed down to 12 couples. To kick off the competition, the couples were taught how to Irish step dance, and performed in front of a live audience made up of teachers, students and judges.

The overwhelming support of the entire school has created tremendous school spirit. Fans are eager each week to watch the couples show off a new themed dance. Each week during Performing Arts, director Adam Funtleyder teaches the students a multicultural dance. April has been made up of Latin and Greek performances.

After each performance one couple is eliminated. The competition will culminate with ballroom dancing. The experience has given students the opportunity to showcase their talents, and has been a wonderful way to educate students about respecting cultural diversity. In addition, it has left the hallways buzzing with anticipation and excitement. Everyone is looking forward to the final round of competition.
