The mission of the Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation (RDRC) is to promote the revitalization of the Rockaway Community's economic base and neighborhoods and to assist its residents in securing an improved "quality of life."

The RDRC Out of School Time {OST} Program at the Far Rockaway Educational Complex welcomes the Dance Theatre of Harlem.

Commencing in January 2007, The Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) under a Cultural After School Adventures (CASA) Grant from the Department of Youth and Community Development, will be conducting a six month residency program for 25 students of the RDRC- Out of School Time (OST) After School Program at the Far Rockaway Educational Complex (formally known as Far Rockaway High School).

In an expansion grant received from the Far Rockaway Weed and Seed, the participants of the residency program were able to purchase dance attire (leotards, tights, performance skirts, pants and bags). With the upcoming program close-out performance, the participants will be able to purchase lighting and equipment as well.

Since the inception of the Dance Theatre of Harlem's residency program at FREC, students of the RDRC- OST Program have been consistently attending workshops twice weekly participating in and learning the rudiments of becoming a professionally trained dance artist. Some of the students, male and female alike, have expressed a desire to continue their study of dance outside of the residency offered at FREC. The camaraderie developed among the students has been exhibited in the pre-class "stretching" exercises done prior to the DTH Instructors' arrival.

In addition, residency students and the drama students, working directly with Sandra Barahona, RDRC Workshop Facilitator, are currently preparing for the second production or "showcase" coming in June 2007. Jesse Williams, OST Workshop Facilitator, has been instrumental in preparing the artistic direction for the posters and scenery that will be featured in this production. Keep listening for the date; you don't want to miss it!!!
