BCAC/JBLL Shamrocks Baseball Gets Underway

By Jim Trudden

This year, the Broad Channel Athletic Club/Jamaica Bay Little League in conjunction with the St. Virgilius Parish is sponsoring several teams in the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) Baseball and Softball programs. One of the teams, the Sub-Novice boys' baseball team, is comprised of kids who are seven and eight years old. The team is being sponsored by "Sports Depot".

This division is a non-competitive instructional level. The main emphasis is for the kids to have fun and learn.

On Saturday, April 14, the BCAC/JBLL Sub-Novice "Shamrocks" opened the season at the BCAC Memorial Field against St. Lukes. Their second game was on Saturday, April 21, away against St. Sebastians. Both games saw strong pitching performances from right handers Matthew Trudden and Peter Keane, as well as southpaws Nicholas Manzi and Thomas Collins.

In the second game, Thomas Collins cleared the bases with a Grand Slam homerun! The hitting and defense has already shown improvement within the first week as shown by the play of Charlie Bostwick, Zachary Warner, CJ Galimi, Joe Capuano, CJ Gallagher, Nicholas Berardino, Connor Guiseppone, Christopher Guiseppone, Sean Ryan, Justin Rivera, and Jonathan Rivera.

The coaches hope all the kids will continue to learn to play the game of baseball, enhance their individual skill levels, and most of all….Have FUN!
