Beach Channel High School Fashion Show A Big Hit
The show opened with Ms. Larcher's award winning BCHS "Hype" Steppers. Then students hit the runway wearing individually designed and donned pink dresses created in Ms. Ferguson's Vocational Sewing Club. Fabric for the "Pink" scene was donated by Material for the Arts.
"What made the show exciting," said one member of the audience, "is the great variety and diversity of scenes." In addition to Pink and Formal Wear scenes, the show included vocalist Aquanna Sistrunk; three dance pieces choreographed and performed by the talented BCHS Dancers; as well as Latin Dancers, Reggae, Punk, Hip-Hop, theme songs and pajama scenes. Faculty members joined the Then and Now scene displaying Powerpoint photos of themselves as teens back then while modeling in the now. Teachers proved to the students that they were young once, too!
Howard Beach Tuxedoes provided tuxedos for the BCHS men who escorted women in the Formal Wear scene. Also supporting the event were O'Grady's Plumbing, Kimball Construction, London French Cleaners and flowers by Nick.
Behind the scenes, BCHS student Inessa Dubinskaya established herself as a gifted makeup artist, carefully coordinating and applying makeup to models. Norberto Rosario and Darryl Richardson also worked tirelessly as stage crew directors.
Nearly 100 BCHS students participated in the 17 scenes. Larcher, the BCHS Step coach, hosted the event while Joe Gargiulio, Ms. Damashek and the Drama Club worked the sound and lights. The event was coordinated by Ms. Murray, Student Activities Coordinator; Ferguson, Transitional Linkage Coordinator and Vocational Sewing Club Advisor; Ms. Smith and Ms. Williams. Many more teachers, staff and students also contributed to the show's success. Principal Dr. David Morris and Assistant Principal Robert Brevetti also supported the event, providing the necessary resources needed to stage the fashion show.
