RBVL Schedules Final Pre-Season Meeting

By Joe McGivney

In preparation for the volleyball season, a critical date is fast approaching. The final Rockaway Beach Volleyball League pre-season meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 25, at 8:00 p.m. at the Kerry Hills Pub. Captains are required to bring the balance of their league fee and their uniform orders. Rosters should be submitted as well.

If a captain is unable to attend he must send a representative (and the money) in his place. The forms are now available on our website, whose address has been simplified to www rb vl.com.

The general feedback on the 2006 season has been very positive and the league is grateful for everyone's input. Feel free to attend the meeting and to voice any of your personal likes and dislikes. We are always striving for improvement.

All but a handful of last year's squads have paid deposits to insure their place for 2007. Additionally, several new teams have been placed on a waiting list to fill any unclaimed spots.

Early projections call for six different divisions with varying levels of skill.

Prospective new referees are welcome to come to the meeting if you would like to be worked into our rotation. You do not need to be a certified ref to work in the RBVL. In fact, many refs have been quite successful with a strong playing background (college and high school) and limited referee experience.

Remember, Wednesday, May 23 will be our first night of volleyball at the beach. It will be a practice night for all and uniforms and schedules will be given out at that time. Hopefully the weather will cooperate as it did last year. Wednesday, May 30 will be opening day and play will continue every Wednesday until August 11.

However, this year there will be one exception. Since the 4 th of July is a Wednesday, the league has moved the weekly matches to Tuesday, July 3. Make a note on your calendar and get ready for a great night of volleyball followed by an even better party.

On Saturday, August 11, the league championships will be played - keep your schedules clear. Every year it's a blast! Finally, it's never too early to save the date for the RBVL Awards Dinner, which will be held on Friday, September 14.

It will only be a short few weeks before opening day arrives and there is still much to be done beforehand. If you have any questions before the meeting please call Patty Moule at 917-566-2809 (Call between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.). Also, take two minutes to visit our website and answer six questions to help us improve our league. See you on April 25.
