Richard S. Bender of Long Beach, California and formerly of Rockaway Beach died in Bellflower, California on April 6. He was 67.
Bender was born in Brooklyn but lived the first 25 years of his life in Rockaway Beach. He was a teacher and an actor/entertainer with memberships in the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG).
Bender is survived by his sister-in-law, Maureen; nephews, Martin, John and Joseph; and a niece, Kathy, all of New York. He is also survived by many friends in Long Beach, California.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to McKenzie Mortuary in Long Beach, California. A Celebration of Life will take place in Long Beach, California, followed by the scattering of Bender's ashes.
Irene M. Blanshan
Irene M. Banshan, a resident of Merrick, Long Island whose daughter and son-in-law reside in Rockaway, died at her home on April 10. She was 90.
Blanshan, a retired librarian for the Freeport Public Library in Freeport, Long Island, is survived by two daughters, Nancy O'Brien (Eugene) of Rockaway and Lois Minster; son, Lee Blanshan; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Calling hours are Friday, April 13 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Community Presbyterian Church, 2101 William Place, Merrick. Burial will be at Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead, Long Island.
Bookkeeper, Community Worker
Elizabeth Buffolino, a Rockaway resident for 25 years coming from Brooklyn, died April 10.
Buffolino, who was born in Brooklyn, was a bookkeeper and a community worker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony.
Buffolino is survived by her daughters, Barbara Buffolino and Karen Buffolino-Nevirs (Guy); sister, Rita Fennessey; and grandchildren, Tristan and Shannon.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 13 from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday at St. Camillus Roman Catholic Church in Rockaway Beach. Interment will be at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.
George E. Monahan
George E. Monahan, a longtime Rockaway summer resident, died April 7.
Monahan, who was born in Brooklyn, served in the United States Army from 1963-1968. He was sergeant in the New York City Police Department, shield #515, 13th Precinct.
Monahan is survived by his son, George Monahan; daughter, Christine Monahan; and brothers, John and James Monahan. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. Katherine A. Woods
Katherine A. Woods, a lifelong summer resident and a year-round summer resident of Rockaway for 55 years, died April 10.
Woods, who was born in Brooklyn, was a member of the St. Camillus Golden Age Club and the St. Camillus Altar Rosary Society. She was also a Eucharistic minister at St. Camillus Roman Catholic Church.
Woods was preceded in death by her husband, William Woods, her son, William and her brother, Joseph King.
She is survived by her sons, Gary and Thomas Woods; sister, Dorothy Gavigan; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
