Free 'Sharps' Containers At St. John's

St. John's Episcopal Hospital is distributing free sharps containers in limited quantity on a first come, first served basis.

Disposable needles, or "sharps," are used in a variety of medications by individuals who self-medicate.

The containers are in medium and large sizes and available for private individual use.

Sharps that are improperly disposed of can be a source of infection and injury to the unsuspecting.

Proper disposal of sharps mean placing them in hard plastic, sealable containers.

St. John's is asking the community to help dispose of sharps properly, and the hospital is happy to assist with this effort as long as the sharps container supply lasts.

In addition, St. John's Environmental Services Department will accept used, filled sharps containers for proper disposal as a free community service.

Containers can be brought to the Environmental Services Department Monday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

For more information about this service or the free sharps containers, contact the Environmental Services Department at 718-869-7776.
