Carmen D. Alvarez Postal Supervisor
Carmen D. Alvarez, a Rockaway resident for 35 years coming from Brooklyn, died March 18.
Alvarez, a postal supervisor, was born in Puerto Rico.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gilbert J. Evertsz Jr.
Alvarez is survived be her daughter, Diana Lyons-Dillard; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many brothers and sisters.
Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment was at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.
Charles F. Keegan
Retired Bricklayer Local #88
Charles F. Keegan, a Rockaway resident for three years coming from Elmhurst, died March 17.
Keegan, a retired bricklayer, Local #88, was born in Manhattan. He was also a retired security officer for Bear Stearns and a member of the Knights of Columbus Rockaway Council.
Keegan is survived by his wife, Helen Cantwell Keegan; children, Veronica Moore, Francis Keegan, James Magee, Patrick Magee, Rose Mulroy and John Magee; brother, Sonny (Edward) Keegan; sister, Pat Doty; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Camillus Church. Interment was at St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.
Mary Frances McEachern
Teacher
Mary Frances (nee Ready) McEachern, a former Breezy Point resident, died from lung cancer at her home in Flagler Beach, Florida on March 20. She was 70.
McEachern, who was born in Brooklyn, was a school teacher. She was a parishioner at Santa Maria del Mar R.C. Church in Flagler Beach.
"Mary was a true teacher, not only in the classroom but in all walks of life," said her husband, John McEachern. "To know her was to love her."
McEachern was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Bernard Ready, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her husband, John McEachern of Flagler Beach; brother, Charles Ready of Little Rock, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Charles Whiting of Irvington, New York; and niece and nephew, Kate and Charles Whiting Jr. of Irvington.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Craig Funeral Home in Florida. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Santa Maria del Mar R.C. Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 29. McEachern will be cremated.
Robert P. McGinn
Security Officer
Robert P. McGinn, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died March 18.
McGinn, a security officer, was born in Manhattan. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. McGinn was an avid golfer and a past member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert.
McGinn is survived by his wife, Helene McBride McGinn; son, Edward J. (Kathleen); daughters, Helene McGinn, Roseanne McGinn, Margaret Parks (Patrick), Maryanne Murchison (Wayne) and Kelly Ann Kelliher (Marty); grandchildren, Thomas, Kelly, Kevin, Patrick, Kerry, Kaylynn, Daniel, Stephanie, Michael, Anthony, Brian, Kyle, Kyla, Robert, Kimberly and Ryan.
Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, with a service held at the funeral home. Disposition was at Green-Wood Crematory in Brooklyn.
