Fisheads, Shilelagh Law Hosts St. Patrick's Day Bash
become the biggest gala event on the peninsula each year. That's right it's the much anticipated and ballyhooed annual St. Patrick's Day and Irish culture festival.
The venue will be the historic Rugby clubhouse (114th St and Rockaway Beach Blvd.) with live music, step dancing, food and oh yes...adult
beverages aplenty for all who are of proper age to partake. Everything will be "under the big top" with the action outdoors under the weatherproof tent. Doors will open at 1:00PM with the action going all day long until closing at 10:00PM sharp.
As always, the very popular "Shilelagh Law" will headline the event with their unbelievable renditions of traditional Irish favorites as well as their own great original hits. "Sullivan's Jack", another outstanding local ensemble, will get things started with a high powered warm-up set that is sure to please both new and returning revelers. Sprinkled in will be local step dancers, pipe and drum corps and a few other surprises as the Fisheads celebrate the wearing of the green with their unmatched flare and enthusiasm. The event will help support the Fisheads Rugby Club as well as other community based groups.
"We are looking to make it even better than last year, but it gets tougher and tougher to top ourselves" said chief organizer, team captain and local scold Grouch McCann.
"This year's event promises to be our biggest ever and we want to get the enthusiasm up for our big play-off game on April 15th under the lights at the new Aviator Field. This is a good way to get the players and the community ready for the Fisheads drive for a championship. It's just around the corner."
McCann was referring to the Fisheads biggest ever post season match at the sparkling new facility on the grounds of Floyd Bennett Field. Mark it down on your calendar, Sunday April 15th at 7:00 p.m. The historic match will be the first ever played at Aviator field and the most significant play-off match-up in Fisheads history.
"We have been on the road for the previous 3 play-offs and lost a few squeakers. The home field can make all the difference and we are counting on the community to get behind us" said the always up-beat and often off-beat Bob Johnson.
This Saturday's event is always a great time and the Fisheads ask all in attendance to behave responsibly as they always have. ID will be checked and nobody will be permitted to drink who is not of legal drinking age.
Other than that....have a great time at the bash nobody should ever miss. Get there early and stay late as the entertainment and atmosphere will be second to none.
ALSO: The Fisheads ask that everyone include former Rockaway Rugby Club President and community fixture Patty Savage in there prayers. Patty is recovering from an unforeseen illness and is doing VERY well thanks to the prayers of everyone who is aware of his present difficulty. Please use the power of your prayers to help Patty continue his remarkable recovery and get "back in action" ASAP. God bless you and keep up the good work Patty!!!
