The Irish Ropes Screening On St. Pat's Day
On St. Patrick's Day, Saturday, March 17, the Del Ray Beach Film Festival in Florida will screen Wave editorial cartoonist Robert Sarnoff's documentary, The Irish Ropes.
The documentary, which has been making the rounds in film festivals, follows the story of the Arverne boxing gym founded by Eddie McLoughlin, whose own boxing career was dashed after a near-fatal car accident in Ireland. In the film, we meet ten aspiring Golden Gloves boxers and undefeated middleweight contender, John Duddy, grow with and out of the Irish Ropes. Along the way, the young men's stories unravel, life lessons are learned and the battle within is fought. An original soundtrack underscores the struggles faced in The Irish Ropes.
Coincidentally, Duddy, the charismatic protagonist of the film, will defend his title at Madison Square Garden on the eve of St. Patrick's Day. The bout can be seen on Pay Per View.
