Woman Injured In ATM Robbery At Arverne Bank
      An unidentified local woman was injured on Wednesday, February 14, when a man wielding a knife accosted her at the ATM outside of the Bank of America branch in Arverne and demanded her money. Police say that the woman gave up $360 to the still-unidentified man but was cut slightly on the neck. She was transported to Peninsula Hospital Center, where she was reportedly treated and released.

BCHS Teen Arrested As Screeners Turn Up Knife
      Police officers and School Security Agents take an unidentified Beach Channel High School student into custody on Tuesday morning. Police say that the teen, who is not being identified because of his age, attempted to enter the school with a knife and was caught at the school's screening device. The case was referred to family court because of the age of the young man.

Hospital Association: Losing Money For Eighth Year
      For the eighth consecutive year, New York State's hospitals, lost money in 2005, bringing total hospital losses to $2.4 billion since 1998, a recent Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) analysis has found. That fact has led Governor George Pataki to assemble a commission to look at hospital costs and to make recommendations.

Peninsula Hospital To Host Blood Drive
      Peninsula Hospital Center will sponsor a blood drive on Monday, February 26, 2007. The blood drive is being held in conjunction with Long Island Blood Services and New York Blood Center. Eligible donors should be in good health with a minimum weight of 110 pounds, and be between the ages of 17 to 75, although older persons may donate blood with their doctor's written permission.

Abandoned Bungalow Fire Sends Firefighters To Hospital
      Afire in an abandoned 100-year-old Edgemere bungalow drew several east end fire units last week, with at least nine of them suffering minor injures and smoke inhalation that necessitated treatment at a local hospital. Fire Department officials say that the first call came in to the 911 emergency system at 9:10 a.m. on Friday, February 9 for a fire at 165 Beach 25 Street.

Rockaway Relay For Life Kicks Off '07 Campaign
      It may have been cold outside, but hearts were warm inside as the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of the Rockaways started its 2007 campaign at a kickoff party on the evening of February 7. Last year the relay raised over $80,000 at the overnight event held each June, and John Link of the ACS would like to replicate that amount this year.

Broad Channel's Public School 47 Students Perform 'Hansel And Gretel'
      Second and third grade students from PS 47 in Broad Channel entertained their schoolmates in Pre-K, Kindergarten and first grade with dance steps they choreographed from the opera "Hansel and Gretel." All of the grades at the school have been studying opera and attending workshops with the staff of The New York City Opera at Lincoln Center. They also attended an actual performance in Manhattan.
