Hundreds Take A Quick Plunge Into The Freezing Atlantic

A few hundred hardy souls gave their all for the fight against Cystic Fibrosis on Saturday with a quick but cold plunge into the Atlantic Ocean at Beach 126 Street. With the temperature hovering between the high 20's and the low 30's and the water temperature slightly lower, the participants took to the water following a quick registration and pre-plunge at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club at Beach 126 Street and Beach Channel Drive. Led by some members of the County Tyrone Pipes, they marched south on Beach 126 Street and the beachfront, where they prepared to plunge. On hand were the NYPD's SCUBA Team and a number of local ambulance corps for protection. Photographs by Howard Schwach and Robert Conti.
