While most New Yorkers stayed in on Sunday, February 4 waiting for the cold front to pass, over 4,000 supporters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Metro New York braved freezing temperatures for The Long Beach Polar Bear Club's Super Bowl Splash.

Several Lawrence Woodmere Academy students attended the event- some taking arctic dips, and others cheering on their friends and supporting the cause by purchasing sweatshirts and baked goods.

Founded in 1998, this traditional winter splash raises money to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

"It was freezing. I thought I was going to faint," said Emily Glazer, a Lawrence Woodmere Academy senior from Lido Beach, who has participated in the event for several years.

Several students wore their sweatshirts to school to show their support for the Polar Bear Club and to encourage others to donate online to the cause at www.longbeachpolarbears.org or www.wish.org .
