John 'Happy' Coyne Electrical Contractor

John 'Happy' Coyne, a Rockaway resident for 40 years coming from Brooklyn, died January 29.

Coyne, an electrical contractor, was born in Brooklyn. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the American Legion.

Coyne is survived by his wife, Linda Larson Coyne; son, Kevin Coyne; daughter, Wendy McGovern; brother, Robert Finley; sister, Maryann Schmidt; and granddaughter, Kaitlyn McGovern.

Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church. Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.

Bernard J. Donohue

Retired NYPD Lieutenant

Bernard J. Donohue, a Belle Harbor resident, died January 24.

Donohue was a retired NYPD lieutenant and Korean War veteran.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean (nee Murphy); brother, Martin; and sister, Peggy Collins.

Donohue is survived by his wife, Sheila K. (nee Darcy); children, Brian E. (Audrey), Patricia Chiarantano (Anthony), Sheila Murray (John), Vincent DiPolo (Leslie) and Frank DiPolo (Jeanann); sister, Theresa Alati (Nick); brother, Thomas (Jeanne); and nine grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to the Marine Park Funeral Home Inc. in Brooklyn. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church. Interment was at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, New York.

John P. Faulhaber

Cook

John P. Faulhaber, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died January 29.

Faulhaber, a cook, was born in Rockaway Beach.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Faulhaber; mother, Margaret Faulhaber; and brother, Patrick Faulhaber.

Faulhaber is survived by his brothers, James, Thomas and Robert Faulhaber; sisters, Mary Ann Faulhaber, Janet Muroski and Beth Ferro; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home, with a service at the funeral home. Disposition was kept private.

Louis A. Gomez

Retired Oil Change Manager

Louis A. Gomez, a Rockaway resident for more than 35 years, died January 23. He was 57.

Gomez, a retired manager of an automobile oil change establishment, was born on July 7, 1949 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was honorably discharged after serving his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

Gomez enjoyed playing handball, paddleball and fishing with his grandchildren, his family said. In his spare time he coached basketball for the Police Athletic League.

Gomez was preceded in death by his father, Pablo Gomez Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Kuehn Gomez; children Louis (Krysten), Victoria McCoy (Philip) and Dolores Franklin (Jay Dee); and eight grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Marinello Funeral Home in Coram, New York. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, New York.

Howard J. Greig

Retired Telephone Repairman

Howard J. Greig, a former Far Rockaway resident fore more than 55 years, died January 28 at Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis, New York.

Greig, a retired NYNEX telephone repairman who worked on the peninsula and Five Towns area for 35 years, was born in Far Rockaway. He retired to Milford, Pennsylvania in 1998.

Greig was a graduate of Far Rockaway High School. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966 and was a member of the Tri-State "Gung-Ho!" Detachment of the Marine Corps League.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion (nee Beloff).

Greig is survived by his son, Joseph Greig of North Lawrence; granddaughters, Caitlyn and Sabrina; and brother, Ronald Greig (Faye) of Far Rockaway.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Meserole Funeral Home Inc. of Inwood, with a service at the funeral home. Interment was at Rockville Cemetery in Lynbrook.

Ida Moore McKiernan

Was Oldest Breezy Point Resident

Ida Moore McKiernan, a Breezy Point resident for more than 60 years coming from Brooklyn, died January 24. She was 101.

McKiernan, a homemaker who was the oldest living member of the Breezy Point cooperative community, was born in Brooklyn.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Moore, Hugh McKiernan and Joseph Flanagan.

McKiernan is survived by her daughters, Gloria Ryan and Marilyn Griffin; grandchildren, William Ryan, Lynda Griffin-Martin and John Ryan; and great-grandchildren, William, Daniel, Briana, Alyssa and Jack.

Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to the Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Genevieve Church in Rockaway Point.

Tyquan Shamel Miller

UPS Deliveryman

Tyquan Shamel Miller, a lifelong Far Rockaway resident, died January 20. He was 24.

Miller, a UPS Deliveryman, was born on March 30, 1981 in Far Rockaway.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dennese McCray; grandfather, Julius Miller Jr.; and great-grandparents, Rev. Julius Miller Sr. and Thomasina Miller.

Miller is survived by his daughter, Chardonnay; father, Timothy McKee; stepfather, Arnold McCray; sisters, Shaquana and Daquasha; brothers, Arnold and Raquan; grandparents, Howard and Julia Gross, Fermon and Sue McKee and Evangelist Verdella Miller; great-grandmothers, Carrie Reynolds and Maggie Miller; grand-aunt, "Nanna"; aunts, Tracy Nadine, Carolyn and Toni; uncles, Tab, Kamrod and Anthony; nephews, Tyliek and Sayquan; godmother, Cynthia Mitchell; godbrother, Terrance Mitchell; and special friend, Lenore.

Elizabeth R. Ockert

Elizabeth R. Ockert, a Rockaway resident for 30 years coming from Howard Beach, died January 25.

Ockert, a homemaker, was born in Queens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolf Ockert.

Ockert is survived by her sons, Karl and Martin; daughters, Catherine Davis and Caroline Mariconda; and brother, John Blaise.

Sara Teresa Santora

Homemaker

Sara Teresa Santora (nee Velardi), a homemaker and lifelong Rockaway resident, died January 30. She was 83.

Santora is survived by her husband, John Santora; children, Angela Eisert (Eugene) of Cedarhurst, Marian Garofalo of Oceanside, Frank Santora of Cedarhurst, Nick Santora (Nancy) of Roslyn Heights, Joseph Santora (Laurel) of Far Rockaway, Teresa Douglas of Wantagh and John Santora (Donna) of Rockville Centre; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brothers, Patsy Velardi (Ida) of Lynbrook and Ralph Velardi (Audie) of Florida.

Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to the Meserole Funeral Home Inc. of Inwood. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 2 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church in Inwood. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village.

Dorothy Smith

Housing Authority Employee

Dorothy Smith, a longtime Far Rockaway resident, died January 20. She was 60.

Smith, who worked for the New York City Housing Authority, was born in Birmingham, Alabama on March 15, 1946. Known to many as "Tootise," she was well-known throughout the Ocean Bay Community.

Smith was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Julia Mae Fisher and eldest son, Arthur Lee Smith Jr.

She is survived by her children, Yvonne Smith of Birmingham, Alabama, Marco Smith of the Bronx, Rodney Smith of Far Rockaway and Devonne Fleming of Far Rockaway; sisters, Lillie P. Bell Fisher of Cleveland, Ohio, Deborah Green of Birmingham, Alabama and Theresa Fisher of Far Rockaway; brothers, Willie Fisher of South Carolina and Larry Fisher of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren, Latifah Smith, Dominique Smith, Shananna Smith, Marco Smith Jr., Shaquia Fleming and Kaira Fleming; special friend, Nikki Bell; and many other relatives and friends.

Minnie Swint

Homemaker

Minnie Swint, a Far Rockaway resident for over 20 years, died January 29.

Swint, a homemaker, was born in Barlow, Georgia on December 18, 1941. She moved to Far Rockaway in 1978. In 2003, Swint joined the Solid Rock Seventh Day Adventist Church and became a faithful member.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Josephine Swint; son, Denis Kellum and longtime companion James Wells; and brothers, Aurther, James and Jimmie Tarver.

Swint is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Tarver, Barbara Swint and Melissa Patterson; stepdaughter, Melissa Osborne; sons, Joseph Swint and David Swint; brothers, William Tarver and Jesse Tarver; daughter-in-law, Dana Swint; sons-in-law, Kevin Patterson and Anthony Stallings; grandchildren, Tywanna, Shaquya, Terrell, Jasma, Alberta, Darnell, Ranzena, Melvin, Sara, Dennis Jr. I, Dennis Jr. II, Joshua, Joseph Jr. I, Daquan, Justin, Jahdiera, Melinda, Karima, Joseph Jr. II, Joshua and Kevin Jr.; great-grandchildren, Dwayne, Cornelius, Inayah, Jayson, Quavon, Sarena, Jasiyah, Jania and Samaya; goddaughter, Jennifer Dankin; god-grandchildren, Tiffany, Charles and Tyese; and many other relatives and friends.

Norma M. Williams

Home Attendant

Norma M. Williams, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died January 16.

Williams, a home attendant, was born in Inwood on April 6, 1940. She became an ordained minister on September 17, 2000 and started her church in her home.

Williams was preceded in death by her father, Norman Williams; grandmother, Josephine "Ma Joe" Royal; son, Mylen Williams; daughter, Gemini Moore; and brother, Norman "Skeets" Williams Jr.

She is survived by her mother, Edna Greene; sons, Jamaal and Sulaman Coleman; grandchildren, Mylen Williams Jr., Tasheema Small, Anthony, Amanda and Michael Moore and Jaquay Coleman; brother, Alan Williams; sister, Roxanne Glover; sisters-in-law, June Young and Roslyn Stevens; brother-in-law, Mark Coleman; son-in-law, Anthony Moore Sr.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements and visitation were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home, with a service at Gaffney's Friendship Chapel. Disposition was at Oxford Hills Crematory in Chester, New York.
